My name is Dia and I live in Florida, USA. I was born here and have lived here all my life. My house is full of the patter of little feet, most have 4 feet. I take in rescue animals, abused, abandoned and the special needs or unadoptable usually wind up staying with me, so we have basically a family of misfits that all take care of and love each other.
I was attracted to creative things most of my life, going through the needlecrafts (crocheting, knitting, embroidery etc.), to macramé, ceramics, clay work, and writing and photography. I wrote and photographed for several plant and pet magazines and had a natural health CD published, but I never could draw or paint.
In 2002 a friend of mine told me about Donna Dewberry and how easy her techniques were. Yeah, right….well I never did master Donna Dewberry’s techniques but it did open up a “I wonder if I could” mode of thinking which first started me painting the Un-Dewberry type techniques on mailboxes. Then I wonder if I could do anything on canvas, so I tried my favorite subject, cats. Well they looked like cats anyway, from there I kept wondering and trying, different subjects, techniques, watching videos, reading books until I actually could manage to make acceptable pictures on canvas and to my surprise people actually BOUGHT them and some people even collected them and asked for more. I was even featured artist in Jan. 2005 at Art-Epiphany.
Every day is a learning experience and I hope one that I will continue to grow and learn and move forward on this earth life journey so when I reach the end I can look back and honestly say, ”I made it through with grace, and openness and love.”
