Robert retired after many years as a professional painter and decorator and travelled both as a technical representative and demonstrator for Crown paints at Ideal Homes Exhibitions. He was a  member of Blackpool Art Society for 10 years. He has taught painting and decorating at Poulton College. He has been a professional watercolour artist for 30 years and has also used other media. He is currently a member of Bolton and Horwich Art Societies.
